Eiza González (Mexico City, 32 years old) feels that she has several lives, one for each country where her meteoric career has taken her. At the age of 17, she triumphed in Mexico as an actress and singer with the youth musical soap opera Lola: Érase una vez; At the age of 20, she moved to Buenos Aires to star in the series Ella sueño conmigo; and at 23 she landed in Los Angeles to shoot From Dusk Till Dawn with director Robert RodrÃguez. I imagine that going back to Mexico gives you the opportunity to look back. How did she come to terms with success when she was a teenager and how has that experience shaped her? Although I know that there is a lot of learning in what I lived, it all happened too fast.
How was your arrival in the US? At what point did she decide that she wanted to pursue her dream in the elite of the film industry? I didn’t plan it. It was an accident. I used to go to Los Angeles a lot because I had friends there. On one occasion my mother said to me: “There is an audition, do you want to go?” I ended up staying in a project and three months later I was moving.

Arriving in the United States implies a reflection on one’s own identity.Yes, and it was complex. He came from being a child star and growing up in the public eye. With so many expectations around you, you wonder what version of yourself people are going to accept. And add that you arrive in another country and you have to please a society.
And how did that change come about? It is very cool to be living in this industry right now because I am seeing a very drastic change. Six years ago I only auditioned once or twice a year because there weren’t many positions for Latinas. Today I introduce myself to everything. People want content and I also think the audiences have spoken a lot.

She has confronted Donald Trump on his social networks, a president who came to the White House attacking Mexicans and migrants. Why did he decide to speak?Because he is a tyrant and what he did was intoxicate the world with lies and partial visions of reality. It was bittersweet for me because I felt dirty living in a country where the person in charge said such despicable things about my people. I experienced migration firsthand in this country and I have family on the border, in Sonora.

In recent times she has publicly supported Joe Biden. How did you feel the day you were proclaimed president?I cried for hours. It gave me great joy because it is a step towards a better country. It is a breath of fresh air, of hope for the future. I think what was happening with Donald Trump is that he was dividing society, he was generating a lot of hate. I can’t see people fighting in the streets and neo-Nazis.
She follows a plant-based diet because she wants to live a more responsible life with the planet. What kind of changes have you made in your life to follow that philosophy?I’m an animalist and I can’t handle things like product testing on animals. Little by little I try to become more conscious. I started to have a plant-based diet, also for health, to educate myself, to read, to plant my own vegetables to have fresh products at home. It is something that I am also passionate about.
