Of all the streaming platforms out there, Netflix is undoubtedly one of the most popular (maybe even the most popular). Unlike most of its rivals, Netflix offers different subscription prices based on different plans. In addition, it now offers a new price option of €5.49 with ads.

For this reason, if you are thinking of joining Netflix, it is normal for you to wonder which Netflix plan interests you the most according to your needs. In this article we tell you more about each of these Netflix plans to help you make the right decision.

Information about Netflix plans

The first thing to note is that Netflix no longer offers a 30-day free trial.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can only register one payment option to your account, but if you want, you can share your email address and password with your friends and family so they can create their own profiles. Make sure that the information you share is not confidential, such as using the same password for Netflix as for your email, social networks or online banking. However, although sharing the account has been possible, very soon you will have to pay extra to add new users.

In any of the three Netflix plans you can create up to five profiles, but the type of subscription you choose will affect the number of simultaneous screens on which you can watch series and movies at the same time.

For this reason, you may be interested in splitting the price with friends or family (we explain more in the following sections).

If price is your main concern, we’ve also calculated what a monthly subscription will cost you per year. However, keep in mind that you can only pay for Netflix on a monthly basis – no annual plans are offered. You can cancel a monthly subscription at any time.

Is the basic plan with Netflix ads for me?

  • Plan with Netflix ads: €5.49 per month (€65.88 per year)

This is a novelty offered by Netflix in Mexico and Spain.

This plan will be like the basic plan (which we will talk about in the next section), but with the difference that you will have to watch ads (which is why it is cheaper).

It is a good option if you are going to use Netflix by yourself, since you will not be able to see more than one screen simultaneously at the same time. It also offers the most basic quality and… you will have to see ads.

But, if you want to save money, watching ads from time to time (like in the good old days of live TV), it sure doesn’t bother you that much.

Is the basic Netflix plan for me?

  • Price: €7.99 per month (€95.88 per year)
  • Recommended for: Individuals or couples living together, those with older TVs

Even in the basic plan, you have access to the entire library of series and movies, so you don’t miss a thing in terms of content. The main restrictions come down to the resolutions you can stream in and the number of simultaneous streams.

Netflix’s basic plan only allows streaming in standard definition (SD), which is 480p. This applies to any device – your TV, phone, and laptop. If you are watching Netflix on an older TV that is not capable of higher definitions, then this point will be something that does not affect you.

Although Netflix allows you to create up to five profiles on all plans, the basic version only allows one stream at a time, meaning no simultaneous stream. So, if you want to get the Basic version, you’ll either have to settle for it being exclusive to one device in your house, or be really good at juggling your surveillance habits with your family or friends.

Also, you can only download the content to a phone or tablet, so this is something to keep in mind if you like streaming on the go.

Is the standard Netflix plan for me?

  • Price: €12.99 per month (€155.88 per year)
  • Recommended for: Those looking for a balance between cost and benefits, small groups

The most popular Netflix plan is the standard. The benefits of the Standard plan vs. the Basic plan include two concurrent streams, two devices for recording downloads, and one stream upgrade.

On Netflix Standard you can stream in high definition (HD), which is up to 1080p. This is average for most devices on sale, so picture quality will be reasonably good for whatever you’re streaming.

Double the number of simultaneous streams makes this account good for friends who watch Netflix at around the same time as you, or multiple family members who like to tune in from different parts of the house. But again, this plan doesn’t give you the maximum number of screens you can have.

Consider who you will share your plan with and what is the maximum amount of money you want to spend each month.

Is the Netflix premium plan for me?

  • Price: €17.99 (€215.88 per year)
  • Recommended for: Large groups and those looking for the best image quality

If the price is not a problem for you or if you are sharing your account with several friends. Then Netflix Premium is worth considering.

If you want to get the most out of your 4K TV or laptop, then Netflix’s premium plan offers Ultra High Definition (UHD), which is 4K streaming. Of course, keep in mind that not all shows and movies on the platform are available in 4K – they are mostly newer releases and will be labeled as such (find out more in our guide to watching Netflix in 4K).

Large groups and large families will also be happy to take advantage of Netflix Premium, as it includes four simultaneous streams and four storage devices for downloads, making it by far the easiest account to share if that’s your primary goal. .

Of course, if all of these streams are in a home (and they’re all in 4K), keep in mind that you’ll need a fast broadband connection to avoid buffering issues.

So which Netflix plan is the best?

The answer depends on your needs.

If you only plan to watch the occasional series on one device, then it’s worth saving some money and going with the basic plan. On the other hand, if you are demanding about image quality, you can think about investing in the premium account. The latter does not mean that you have to pay more.

In fact, if you can find three other people to share the bill with and divide the price by four, you’ll end up paying even less.

Always consider the option of splitting the bill, value for money (sometimes it’s worth paying a little more to get something better value for money. Of course, also consider whether or not you have devices capable of playing on 4K (it’s not worth paying for it if your TV doesn’t support that quality).

And also remember that you can always switch from one account to another very easily from your Netflix account until you find the one that best suits your needs.
