If the big winners seem quite clear at the moment, with proper names like Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, It Takes Two, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury or Monster Hunter Rise (without forgetting surprises like Fata Morgana), the other side of the coin may not be so well defined. We refer to the worst rated games.

The criteria for choosing them are very simple: they must have been launched in 2021 and have at least 7 different media ratings. Among all of them, the average rating is calculated, and among all the games released so far this year (close to 300, among all versions) we have chosen the 10 games with the lowest rating of 2021, according to Metacritic .

Will the games that have disappointed you the most be there? We will only give a clue, among the worst games according to Metacritic , not even the new generation consoles have escaped, and it is possible to find a recent PS5 and Xbox Series X title. Ready to meet them all?

The worst rated games so far, according to Metacritic

As on other occasions, we list the worst rated games in ascending order, starting with the one with the highest rating, and ending with the lowest, and absolute worst game, at least, of the first quarter .

10. Apex Legends (Nintendo Switch)

The battle royale from Respawn and EA Games, which has already been on the market for two years, has received good reviews from day one for its gameplay approach, its legends with different abilities, its visual quality… until the version for Nintendo’s hybrid console two months ago, which has an average score of 54, just a passing “scratch.”

Since that day, Apex Legends for the Nintendo Switch has been one of the lowest rated games . The reasons are multiple, starting with the fact that it doesn’t offer cross-progression with the rest of the platforms (although it does cross-play), technical concessions, blurring, frequent frame drops.

9. Redout: Space Assault

Redout, the F-Zero-style speed arcade that was released in 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC (here you can see a trailer), has changed registration in 2021, to offer a shooting arcade on rails with a space setting and player oriented.

7. The Unexpected Quest

This adventure with a medieval setting, with elements of strategy and management game, debuted at the beginning of the year on Nintendo Switch and PC, and like many other similar games of the genre, it invited us to collect materials, build, explore the surroundings, contact other towns friendly or not…

Despite its good intentions, The Unexpected Quest is one of the lowest rated games , achieving an average rating of 49 on Nintendo Switch , penalizing general simplicity, lack of challenge or challenge, and being recommended only for gamers. very young and inexperienced in the genre.

6. PixelJunk Raiders

Until now, the last exclusive game of Google Stadia, and a new proposal from Q-Games, the creators of the PixelJunk series (which has left games of all kinds, such as PixelJunk Shooter), invites us to wake up from a long sleep to defend our land from the alien invasion that is destroying the inhabitants.

Thus, PixelJunk Raiders is a roguelite adventure with hundreds of missions in which there is no lack of combat, rescue of survivors.

5. I Saw Black Clouds

FMV, or live action, adventures may seem like a thing of the past… but they’re still coming out, and on a regular basis. In this case, I Saw Black Clouds is an adventure that invites us to return to our hometown after the death of a good friend, in a psychological thriller that will drag us into a sequence of dark secrets, with supernatural elements and stories that are they branch out

4. Demon Skin

This beastly “Hack & Slash” bet on a challenging combat system and a general “whiff” reminiscent of Dark Souls, set in a dark fantasy universe that will put your skills to the test.

But despite its potential and appeal, Demon Skin has only reached an average score of 47 on Metacritic, in its only PC version. The reasons for becoming one of the games with the lowest score  are simple: it mixes mechanics and ideas from different games but without standing out, or having its own personality, and it is not as polished as it should be, animations included.

3. Taxi Chaos

We entered the top of the table of the worst games  according to Metacritic with what was going to be the spiritual successor to Sega’s remembered Crazy Taxi… but as we told you in our Taxi Chaos analysis, many factors prevented the long-awaited Return.

2. Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthbloods

This third-person action adventure puts us in the shoes of Cahal, a member of a dissident environmental group that wants to end Endron, a corporation that is destroying nature. But Cahal has a gift that will allow him to carry out his mission: he is a garou or man who can transform into a werewolf at will.

On paper, this premise looked very good, and the truth is that some parts of the game, such as combat, do not work badly at all.

1. Balan Wonderworld

Sadly, to this day, the game with the lowest rating of 2021, according to the Metacritic average and with at least 7 accumulated reviews, is the Nintendo Switch version of Balan Wonderworld, the first project by Yuji Naka, the father of Sonic, for Square Enix. And who knows if he will be the last…

And with this we end our review of the 10 worst-rated games so far  according to Metacritic . Have you missed any other title that you think should be on this list?
